File descriptors

Hi Everyone,

I increased the file descriptors to 1024 so to allow more descriptors for
squid2.0.PATCH2.squid didn't complain and showed 1024 file descriptors but
when doing ulimit -a I get this.

core file size (blocks) 0
data seg size (kbytes) unlimited
file size (blocks) unlimited
max memory size (kbytes) unlimited
stack size (kbytes) 8192
cpu time (seconds) unlimited
max user processes 512
pipe size (512 bytes) 8
open files 256
virtual memory (kbytes) 2105343

Open files are still 256 whereas squid is showing 1024. Where does ulimit
get this information from. Are the filedescriptors increased on my system.
Did I missed something ?
