squid 1.1.20

I have 3 proxy servers running squid 1.1.20 i have tried to arrange them
in a hierarchy with the one in the middle doing redirection. Whenever I
go to a site that should be redirected I get a file not found error
where I used to get a policy statement. All machines are redhat linux 5
running on intel processors.

proxy 1
parent for 2

proxy 2 (runs a redirector called smartfilter that blocks adult sites)
parent for 3
sibling for 1

proxy 3
sibling for 2 for redirector

I set this up so that anyone going through proxy 2 or 3 would be
redirected but anyone going through proxy 1 wouldn't. With the hopes
that 2 would benefit from the cache on 1, with 3 benefiting from the
cache on 1 and 2.

I had it running on 2 and 3 just fine for about 6 months with the
following squid.conf entrys.
proxy3
cache_host proxy2 sibling 3128 3130

proxy2
cache_host proxy3 sibling 3128 3130

and it worked fine

when I added proxy 1 all I did was do the
following to its squid.conf
cache_host proxy2.conf sibling 3128 3130

on proxy 2 i added the following to squid.conf
cache_host proxy1 parent 3128 3130
