I presume you are talking about the "Host:" header. Squid uses this if
running as a accelerator or transparent proxy, and told to use it. When
running as a normal proxy it does not have to bother with the Host:
headers as the URI received is a full URL including host name.

The relevant squid.conf configuration is "httpd_accel_uses_host_header
on" wich is a must on transparent proxies, or in an accelerator
supporting domain-virtual hosts.
