Filedescriptors

Hi!

I'm sorry if this is slightly off topic...
I'm running squid on systems with linux kernels 2.2.x.
No matter what I write into /proc/sys/fs/file-max, I cannot get more than
1024 filedescriptors (ulimit -n >1024 doesn't work).
Now, at least one of our proxies sais:
May 11 22:52:13 proxy1 squid[173]: WARNING! Your cache is running out of
filedescriptors.
Now, I obviously need help :)
