Hi again all.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I was able to upgrade our IOS to 11.3.10 in the early hours of the morning
today and that seems to have done the trick. (Well also using the "ip
route-cache policy" of course).

CPU load on the Cisco 3640 actually seems to have dropped a bit in general
over the previous IOS ver. And this with the re-directs enabled. This could
be my imagination, but hey, good all around. Currently running just under
30% utilization.
So far I'm only throwing about 1.5 Meg of traffic to squid box, but will
adjust that access-lists to add more of our dial subnets.

Again thanks to everyone that responded.
