As with the first two version numbers, the third version number (i.e.
2.2.x) is a natural number, and increases as such; therefore versions
2.2.9, 2.2.10 and 2.2.11 are consecutive releases.

If you've moved to a higher version (i.e. 2.2.7 or greater), then no. I
understand that Alan releases patches for each (most?) kernel releases,
and only the matching patch collection should be applied to a kernel
source tree.
