cache_dir parameters

Greetings all,

We've got an OSF V5.0 box (Alpha DS 10) running squid and it's been up
for less than 3 hours and already it's dumped core once (seg fault).
We cannot see why it died, it just did.

We're running squid with cache_mem set to 240 and we were wondering
what difference the cache_dir parameters (level 1 and 2 directories)
make. Is there documentation for how big to make them? The defaults
are kinda small for us as we want about 5Gb of cache so I've got it at

        cache_dir /data/squid/cache 5000 32 256

is this likely to cause a problem?

Thanks in advance.

K.
