  You can also generate usefull statistics wihout touching the log at all -
lots of stuff can be gathered from squid via SNMP with Multi Router Traffic
Grapher (mrtg). I personally use this method together with Calamaris.
Reference to both methods as well to many other log processing scripts you
will find on squid's homesite.
