Bogus auth ?!

Hi all.

I'm having a 'very' strange problem with squid's LDAP auth.

I'm using a home-modified ldap_auth ( originally from Felix Meschberger -
fmesch@dial.eunet.ch) as the external LDAP auth program for squid.

When squid is started, everything works great, i.e., users _must_ use their
LDAP user/password pair to use the proxy.
After several hours (unforunately cannot say exactly how many), squid goes
bananas...
If a user authenticates himself as user = a / password = a, for instance,
squid happily lets him through ...
Manually launching ./ldap_auth and issuing a<cr> a<cr> returns ERR, so, it
doesn't appear to be an autenticator problem.
Restarting squid gets everything working fine again ... (in fact, I'm
restarting squid every night at 3 P.M. to bypass this problem ...).

To be honest, I've did almost no 'digging around' yet... maybe this is a
known issue ... is it ?

HW + SW
IBM Netfinity 5500R - PII450 - 256Mb
Redhat 6.1
Squid 2.2.STABLE4
