Persistence to an extreme

We are experiencing the opposite problem from some correspondents - that
is squid is continuing to keep and ftp session going after the client
clicks on Cancel download.

We are running squid on RedHat 5.2 Linux, ISADN dial-up to ISP and using
Internet Explorer as the browser. When users go to an ftp download and
start downloading everything goes OK. If they attempt to cancel the
download, the browser says it has cancelled, but the ISDN stays up and
the file continues to come down (even after stop/start on squid). If
they go back to the page later (say 30 mins) the file is bigger by about
the correct amount.

Any ideas? I've looked in squid.conf but nothing obvious springs to
mind.

I've checked all the FAQ's and archives of the lists but no mention of
this problem.

Cheers,
