[SQU] Transparent vs. non-transparent proxy

I asked this question earlier, but I did not get an answer.

Why can I not use transparent proxy for https???

If I use masquerading, or if I put in the proxy manually for https/ftp, I
can connect to ftp/https sites. If I try to use ipchains to REDIRECT for
https or ftp, it will not work. Why???
