This is the Squid mailing list, Edward, and reiserfs or Red Hat
questions are off-topic.

But the answer is, yes, you have to recompile. Red Hat does not ship
with ReiserFS in any of their 2.2 series kernels, and never will. Red
Hat versions based on the 2.4 series kernels will eventually have
ReiserFS support (and in fact, ReiserFS is probably already in there in
version 7.1 but not documented or part of the installation process).
