[squid-users] cache directory damaged, and mem usage

I downgraded temporarily a proxy from 2.4 to 2.3
Since i saw in the docs that the cache dir format is compatible, i just
left the old caches in place. However, there was and odd thing: the new
(2.3) proxy started to fill the partitions, until they got 100% and, of
course, Squid crashed.
I had to umount the partitions and mkfs them again. :-(

Now i'm back on 2.4, since 2.3 seems to leak memory even worse than 2.4
on Irix...

On the dir1-day.png file, you can see how the 2.3 started to fill the
caches (1:00 AM), until they got 100%, and then crashed (10:00 AM). The
values are gigs, not megs (ignore the "M").

On the mem-day.png you can see how 2.3 started to eat memory much faster
than 2.4 (between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM there's no network activity, so
process size is not supposed to grow). At least 2.4 doesn't grow at all
between 1:00 and 7:00, while 2.3... well, you can see for yourself.
