[squid-users] accelerating basic authentication pages

Hi all,

I've got 2 machines. One running Squid (2.4S1) in accelerator mode. And the
other running Apache (1.3.19). like this...

Web Client -> Squid -> Apache

I have some files (mp3) located in an Apache directory which uses basic
authentication (.htaccess) to prevent unauthorized access.

Squid will *not* cache the data in this 'protected' directory.

Squid *will* cache the data if I move it to an 'unprotected' directory.

Is there a way around this?

Would it be bad to allow this?
(i.e. will people be able to get data from the cache without having to
authenticate to Apache?)

Thanks for the help,

Mario
