I downloaded and compiled squid (in May already, a while ago), and the bug went
away.
So this one seems to be resolved. Now I have a new problem with squid-ntlm.
I started to use squidguard; as soon as I enter a redirector line in squid.conf
squid crashes on every redirected site with the following log entry :

2001-06-11 12:57:49 [23762] urllist empty, removed from memory # last line from
squidguard starting...
2001/06/11 12:57:50| storeLateRelease: released 0 objects # not sure what is
going on here
2001/06/11 12:58:00| assertion failed: authenticate.c:506: "auth_user_request !=
NULL" # bingo !
2001/06/11 12:58:03| Starting Squid Cache version 2.5.DEVEL for
i686-pc-linux-gnu... # restart

I should stress that on this machine I am not actually *using* ntlm auth; it is
just compiled in as I use it as
testbed for other machines with ntlm auth. So there is no proxy acl on
consequently no auth_user.. but everything
was fine until I entered a redirector line in squid.conf.

I am cc'ing this to the list.
