[squid-users] squid install

Dear all,

Who could tell me what kind files I will have after I
installed squid on LINUX machine?

right now I have the following files in my machine
/squid. Do I need to install squid or it means squid
already there?

acconfig.h config.log CONTRIBUTORS doc
lib scripts
auth_modules config.status COPYING errors
makefile snmplib
cfgaux configure COPYRIGHT icons
makefile.in src
ChangeLog configure.in CREDITS include
QUICKSTART test-suite
config.cache contrib CVS INSTALL
README TODO

How can I to be an "expert" of squid very soon or what
should be the procedure or which file I need to read?
