[squid-users] images slow to load through squid?

g'day

i've got a bit of a problem which appears to be related to
loading images through squid.

plain HTML is fine, but there's a noticeable difference
between using the cache and going direct when there are
images involved. (and due to poor HTML layout, some pages
can take ages to appear if i don't hit 'stop')

the cache is 2.4stable-1, and is running on linux 2.4.3
as a transparent proxy (using iptables).

is this a known issue? i couldn't find anything in the
mailing list archives or the faq.

any pointers appreciated
