Hi Justin,

it seems to me that smb_auth is working fine for you, instead you are
having some problems with configuring Squid to use an authenticator.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to support non-smb_auth related
issues. I'm really soory about that, but my job just doesn't allow me to
spend much time on supporting smb_auth.

I suggest you ask the Squid lists instead, those are meant for issues
like this.

Regards, Richard.

Here we go, the only thing I added was the -d for debug

[root@popcorn etc]# /usr/local/bin/smb_auth -W VCSDOMAIN -S
/ProxyAccess/proxyauth -d
testuser password
Domain name: VCSDOMAIN
Pass-through authentication: no
Query address options:
Domain controller IP address: 192.168.1.12
Domain controller NETBIOS name: DOCSSRV
Contents of //DOCSSRV/ProxyAccess/proxyauth: allow
OK

It's odd, 'cos it doesn't even ask me for a username and password in the
browser

The line (when debugging the squid) helperServerOpen..... it hangs
there...

if I put a # infront of authenticate_program then when opening a
browser it asekd for a password, but obviously it doens't know how to
authenticate it.
thenI add in the authenticate_program line in squid.conf and it doesn't
ask me for a username and password (in the browesr) it says cannot find
page

I've upgraded my SQUID to 2.4 STABLE - but it didn't help, I've
downloaded your smb_auth 0.5 and recompiled ... didn't help

Any Ideas?

Are you on MSN Messenger ? if so add nozlab@hotmail.com

The line about the 5 authneticators is ok, that's normal. Are you sure
the debug output
of smb_auth is ok? Please mail it to me (using the exact same arguments
as in your
Squid.conf with -d added).

Richard.

Hi,
I am having problems with smb_auth
Please can you help me.

I've used it before and it worked, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong
here...

I setup the following in my squid.conf
acl domainusers proxy_auth REQUIRED
http_access allow domainusers

an when I try connect to the proxy server it asks me for a password.

great now I know it works...

then I update squid.conf with
authenticate_program /usr/bin/smb_auth -W VCSDOMAIN -S
/ProxyAccess/proxyauth

If I debug smb_auth with those paramaters, It works,
but squid give the following:
[root@popcorn squid]# squid -N -d 1
2001/09/15 18:56:02| Starting Squid Cache version 2.3.STABLE4 for
i386-redhat-linux-gnu...
2001/09/15 18:56:02| Process ID 10810
2001/09/15 18:56:02| With 1024 file descriptors available
2001/09/15 18:56:02| Performing DNS Tests...
2001/09/15 18:56:02| Successful DNS name lookup tests...
2001/09/15 18:56:02| DNS Socket created on FD 4
2001/09/15 18:56:02| Adding nameserver 192.168.1.14 from
/etc/resolv.conf
2001/09/15 18:56:02| helperOpenServers: Starting 5 'smb_auth' processes

The last line doesn't make scence... now if I try access the web
throught the proxy it just says Page cannot be displayed.
