There are two sources, giving slightly different output

a) Process the last few minutes of access.log. This should give a good
view of who is recently using the proxy. However, this won't detect
users doing large downloads until the download has finished as the
request isn't logged until it is finished.

b) Look at the filedescriptor usage reported by cachemgr. This
contains details on what is going on right now. Note: This
information can easily be collected and processed by a by a batch
tool by using the squidclient program.

   squidclient mgr:fd

If both are combined I think you should get a pretty clear view.
