Not really.

If I were you I would spend some time on trying to identify why you get
defunct processes. This is defenitely not normal, and not seen on any of the
RH7.1 or 7.3 systems I have access to.. and our Squids have a lot of
helpers..

To make sure we are actually talking about the same thing, what is the
  ps -lp <pid>
output for a such defunct process?
