There can be many causes to why this fails..

If the Java applet is using it's own TCP protocol on 43856 then it might be a
local java security policy issue. Some browsers does not allow Java applets
downloaded from a proxy to connect directly to the network, basically only
allowing them to fetch URLs from the proxy. See the brosers java console when
trying to open the applet.

I don't remember exacly the local property that has to be set in the browsers
to allow for this. From what I recall this problem is seen with Netscape and
HotJava browsers, but not most versions of MSIE.

If this is your problem then there should be a message in the browser java
console giving some hints on which property it is. Then try searching on
Google or similar services for this message.
