I have used both SquidGuard and Dansguardian for content filtering, SquidGuard is very easy to use but does not have the options that Dansguardian has. I currently use both, I use SquidGuard to replace banner ads with our College Logo, and Dansguardian as our content filter. I find Dansguardian very easy for other staff to add, remove or add to a exception list URL's and domains via Webmin.

This is not true, you do have to pay a subscription but, only if you want to have the blacklist updated automatically.

Subject: [squid-users] Suggestions about content filtering programs...

Hello all!

I am looking towards a solution for implementing Content-Filtering to my
squid proxy.

I actually browsed through the archives and found a couple of names. I'd
like you all to give me some feedback on which one could better be
implemented, administered and why do you use that particular one!

I'm undecided between:

JunkBuster (seems to me rather a banner-blocking software)
SquidGuard (is actually the first choice I would follow, because of it's
GPL licensing and it's super-configurability. One thing that leaves a
doubt in me is the fact that it resembles very much squid's own ACLs, so
please explain me the effective potential of this software!)
DansGuardian (would be nice, but would have to be paid for and is
actually similar to SquidGuard, or not?!?!)

Thank you in advance...
