 That is true, but for commercial and possibly other compilers
 this poses additional issues , such as the needed presence
 of certain shared libs on the system which may be compiler dependend.

 Or not , if the binary is build to avoid such dependencies.

 I guess there are no general guidelines and or the issue may be
dependend
 on the specific compiler version and os/platfporm/version being used.

 Cross compiling SQUID may be another manner, I have not seen
 any references to such projects on the list in recent months.
