[squid-users] Performance of https connections (direct or via proxy)

Hi,
I already asked this question some time ago, but I made
some new observations.

Why is https performance so poor, when going direct with
internet explorer instead of using squid?
I know ie may only do 2 or 4 tcp connections to the server,
when changing registry to 10 or more connections it is equal to
going via squid.

How does squid handle this?
It is really fast if using squid and *normal* ie.
Is ie allowed to do more connections to squid or
does squid more connections to the web server?
And why(!) does this accelerate this much?!

We are running domino servers with a couple of icons
on the pages and experiencing great performance if using
squid as proxy or apache as reverse proxy (with http compression).

Thank you
Rainer
