We were running 2.5stable1. I've configured and compiled 2.5stable2
but was unable to find information on said patches to include error
description in the email to the cache admin.
I was looking at: http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.5/bugs/
Is this the wrong place to be looking?

The error messages of Squid-3 will include a message body in the cache
administrator email link...

For Squid-2.X some patching is required to do this in a suitable
manner. Once upon a time there was a separate patch available for
this (before the patch was integrated into what will become
Squid-3.0) but this seems to have vanished from the net. See the
squid-dev archives from september.
