Hello,
I have RedHat 9, Squid-2.5.Stable1-2 working fine and now I decided to use
user authentification with the ncsa module.
I have configured my system up to the point that the browers (tried with
Mozilla and Internet Explorer) ask for login&password but whatever I wrote,
it ask one more time (sometimes if keeped asking one and more time) and
inform about "The connection was refused when attempting to contact
www.webpage.com".
I supose it might be a problem related with the password file, but can't
guess what. All paths seem to be correct.

I installed Squid as an rpm package.
In squid.conf I have added:

auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/ncsa_auth /etc/squid/squid_passwd

acl password proxy_auth REQUIRED

http_access allow password (before http_access deny all)

I have added some users with /usr/bin/htpasswd to the
/etc/squid/squid_passwd
I have tried all encryption modes without success.

There is a log file I could check for more info?
