As this error is causing a lot of confusion I am considering removing this
error from Squid, and instead just do the same to the user as was done to
Squid. I.e. if a server won't give us a reply then don't give one to the
client.

Is there any opinions on this?

Doing so however collides with one of my Squid applications where
zero-sized replies is catched, so if this is done it will be a
configurable option.
