[squid-users] cache_dir doesent grow to given size

Hi all
this is my cache_dir line in squid.conf
cache_dir ufs /cache 3500 16 256

but df max shows my /cache to 3002100 it never grows beyond this

googling gave me an idea that i have to increase the ttl(time to live ).but i cant go to the exact tag i am supposed to change in squid.conf.
Hope some one can help
