Hi all

Our university is currently running a PIII 866Mhz server with 1Gb RAM
and 2x 20Gb and 1 x 70Gb scsi drives. It serves about 4000 clients (max
client connections at any one time will not exceed 2000). Running squid
2.4.stable6

OS info is Linux version 2.4.20-28.7smp (Red Hat Linux 7.3 2.96-126)) #1
SMP Thu Dec 18 11:18:31 EST 2003

We've just purchased a new Intel box which will be used as a proxy
server at our University, it has teh following specs

IntelŽ '"Clearwater-2" SE7501CW2 Dual Xeon (DP) Server Board
E7501 Chipset, 533/400 FSB, 8MB ATI Graphics, 10/100&Gbe LAN
IntelŽ Boxed Xeon 2.4GHz DP Processor 512K OD 533MHz FSB mPGA
4 x Kingston^(TM) 1024MB DDR266 Registered ECC Server Memory, 184-Pin,
PC2100, IntelŽ Approved
1 IntelŽ Ultra320 Single Channel SCSI Controller without Cable
3 x SeagateŽ 36GB 10,000RPM 68pin SCSI Drives - 8MB cache***
1 x AOpenŽ (Mitsumi) 1.44MB Aopen white FDD Drive, retail package
1 x BTC 56X IDE CD-ROM Drive

We plan to install the latest version of Squid on this box and I need
some guidance as to what flavour of Linux to install.

Can anyone throw some suggestions?

Many thanks

Rgds,
Hement Gopal
