I suggest you use whatever distribution you are most comfortable with. There
will be little performance difference between any two recent distributions
using the 2.4 Linux kernel.
However, since you are soliciting suggestions, I suggest Debian. I prefer it
because of its rock-solid stability and excellent package management, both
stemming from rigorously enforced policies.
