If squid is running in proxy mode, make your client ( browser ) not use the proxy settings with the proxy server on http port.

Squid is used for caching the internet contents not for giving the internet access. If you try the net with out squid it will not be
cached for further use again. If you don't have net access, there is no work for Squid.
