This is about what a single correctly tuned Squid is capable of, so a
cluster of two servers with a P4 CPU and 3 SCSI drives each, 1.5 GB
memory. (or maybe three servers if you want to have margin while one of
the servers is offline for serice)

I would partition the drives in

1. a software mirrored OS partition, mirrored on all three drives.
2. a software RAID5 for log files.
3. the rest of each drive mounted separately as cache.
