[squid-users] squid-2.5.STABLE9 successful install but pam_auth troubles

Dear all,

Manual configuratin with following specs
1. squid-2.5.STABLE9
2. FC-3 kernel-2.6.10

Process followed is :
1. Create System account with UID 23 , Shell /sbin/nologin
2. Unpack the file downloaded
3. Configure with option
./configure --build=i686-redhat-linux --host=i686-redhat-linux
--target=i686-redhat-linux-gnu --program-prefix= --prefix=/usr
--exec-prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin
--sysconfdir=/etc --datadir=/usr/share --includedir=/usr/include
--libdir=/usr/lib --libexecdir=/usr/libexec --localstatedir=/var
--sharedstatedir=/usr/com --mandir=/usr/share/man
--infodir=/usr/share/info --exec_prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/sbin
--libexecdir=/usr/lib/squid --localstatedir=/var
--sysconfdir=/etc/squid --enable-poll --enable-snmp
--enable-removal-policies=heap,lru
--enable-storeio=aufs,coss,diskd,null,ufs --enable-ssl
--with-openssl=/usr/kerberos --enable-delay-pools
--enable-linux-netfilter --with-pthreads
--enable-external-acl-helpers=ip_user,unix_group,wbinfo_group
--enable-auth=basic --enable-useragent-log --enable-referer-log
--disable-dependency-tracking
--enable-cachemgr-hostname=<replaced_by_my_host>
--enable-ident-lookups --enable-truncate --enable-underscores
--datadir=/usr/share --enable-basic-auth-helpers=PAM
4. Configuration , compiling , installing goes fine.

Problem :
1.
I am not able to authenticate my local users with pam_auth
Yes, I have done
chown root /usr/lib/squid/pam_auth
chmod u+s /usr/lib/squid/pam_auth
and restarted squid ,without any success

2. I wanted to recompile squid as the rpm packs I was using had the
ident look up disabled.

Am I missing something please do guide me.
