You can't test NTLMSSP (NTLM) authentication by hand..

squid-2.5-basic can be tested by hand by just entering a username and
password.

  /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-basic
  username password
  OK/ERR returned indicating success/failure
