On the contrary. It's Squid-2.5 which is outdated.. but Squid-3 is not
quite yet ready so bette stick with 2.5 for now.

the rproxy pages mentioned above contains design notes while Squid was
reworked to better support reverse proxy configurations. These changes
have been merged into what will become Squid-3.0.

Or if you use the rproxy patch then see the rproxy webpages for an
general idea of what rproxy changes, and squid.conf.default after
installing the patched Squid for details on the configuration
directives. Some info related to this can also be found in the Squid-3
release notes.
