[squid-users] NCSA_Auth issues

I have found a flood of info about ncsa_auth but I cannot find anyone
having the same issue that i am. I am new at this thing so please be
patient if I sound like a retard. =)

I am running SLES 9 fully patched and up to date
Squid Stable 2.5 (installed via rpm package included with system)

I got squid up and running just fine using some basic ACL's for diff
parts of our network. Now I am asked to add the "authentication" into
the system

I am trying for the NCSA_AUTH and this is where I stand:

I have created password files using htpasswd with each type of
encryption that it offers (htpasswd -c (tried all encrypts and plain)
passwd jimbo) prompts for a password, type it in etc. finishes with
no apparent issues.

I then run the check (ncsa_auth passwd) takes me down a line, then
type in the username (jimbo) it returns err every freakin' time no
matter what kind of encryption it uses, HSA, plain, md5 etc.

I hope someone can tell me what I am screwing up here because this is
driving up a wall.

Thanks to all,

Jim
