Running Squid under pfsense?

Pardon me if someone finds what I am about to say offensive,

But in my opinion, pfsense is a childs toy, and no sane man would put it
into production in a serious environment,

More specifically, in regards to squid proxy, I find that it is absurd the
way they bury the squid.conf in some obscure
xml scheme, as I have placed multiple inquiries to the pfsense community
over this issue, the response I got...

Was essentially that they are purposely making direct editing of
configuration file difficult to do for the end users.

I was offended by this, as I find their user interface for squid3 lacking in
configuration directives, limiting the users ability
to truly have the freedom to configure the squid proxy under pfsense in any
sensible manner.

But then again, that is just my opinion, and maybe I am wrong, but thats how
I see it.

Hopefully some serious squid enthusiasts/experts can assist the pfsense
developerment team in developing a better interface for squid proxy under
pfsense, or even simply allow an option in the pfsense web gui for direct
editing of the configuration file for advanced or custom tailored options.

Once again, I apologize if voicing my opinion on this matter if it was less
than productive.
