Yes, I have the same problem too.
It turns out the 'unexpected' bytes are the HTTP request for the page you
are trying to load. After a while, Netscape is probably timing out,
and retrying the request, at which time it succeeds. Or you can use
the STOP button, then hit RELOAD, and the page will be fetched
immediately.
