should be fine, but I would rather use 5.4.x, methinks.

on one of our caches

squid 130 22.1 75.5 107M3 96220 ? S May 25 12483:20 squid

this squid has been running since
Start Time: Sun, 25 May 1997 06:47:30 GMT

and has handled more that 12 million TCP connections

this is squid-1.NOVM.10

ldconfig says
        libc.so.5 => libc.so.5.4.23

(it's statically linked, though)
