Squid: ERROR: No Running Copy

Could somebody help me please ?

I was running 1.20 version, and deinstalled it to install the new version
1.1.21 for Red Hat Linux (rpm).

Once installed, when running squid status, it displays:
Squid (pid xxx) is running...
Squid: ERROR: No Running Copy

looking at /var/run, there is no squid.pid

I have deinstalled and installed several times with no luck.

Any ideas of what am I doing wrong ?, I am new (very new) to Linux.
