If this is parent is the single parent you MUST use to reach the
destination then using no-query may be a more suitable option, avoiding
the query all together.

My setup for a Squid inside a firewall is

cache_peer firewall.this.domain 80 0 no-query default no-digest
always_direct allow intranet_servers
never_direct allow all
