It very much depends on your authenticator and your authenticate_ttl
setting. Very hard to give a general recommendation other than that you
should not need many unless your authenticator requires a large amount
of time to validate a password or your authenticate_ttl is very short.
Best recommendation is to set it up and monitor the usage histogram
using cachemgr to determine if you need more or fewer in your
environment.

Also note that if you have a singlethreaded backend validator server
then running multiple authenticator processes won't help you much.
