RE: Forwarding requests to another proxy server

Hi.

Forwarding a request to another proxy server without ICP can be done in two
ways.. If you just want to have say 3 proxies that you send requests to,
then you can use the "round-robin" tag for your cache_peers.. This will
evenly distribute the requests you receive to these 3 proxies..

If you want to use some sort of predictive forwarding (that is the request
is forwarded to a cache that may already have the object you are looking
for) then your only option (that I know of) other than ICP is Cache Digests.
Make sure you have this option compiled into squid if you want to play with
it and also that your sibling and parent proxies support it.

Load balancing at the client end can be done with proxy.pac script files..
Both Netscape and IE support these now and they are quite usefull.. There
should be a bit of info in the FAQ and the User Guide if I am not mistaken.

I hope that answers your question :)

Subject: Forwarding requests to another proxy server

Hi

How does one forward requests to another proxy server that does not support
ICP?

What if one want's to forward requests to more than 1 other proxy server?
i.e. load balance between 2 other proxy servers?

Regards,
Andrew
