Well, looking to my statistics about the storedir I don't see problems
there.
I have plenty of free space and filemap bits too. If my view on this
matter is correct
the chances that the stuff the clients requests to be in the cache is
bigger if the
Percent of the Used Size of the cache is higher. Probability matter I
guess :-)
Of course if is a healthy relation between the size of the cache and the
utilization of this produced by the clients.

I supposed that the problem is something elsewhere :-(

Store Directory Statistics:
Store Entries : 59197
Maximum Swap Size : 1024000 KB
Current Store Swap Size: 541694 KB
Current Capacity : 53% used, 47% free

Store Directory #0: /var/spool/squid
First level subdirectories: 16
Second level subdirectories: 256
Maximum Size: 1024000 KB
Current Size: 541694 KB
Percent Used: 52.90%
Filemap bits in use: 59130 of 157538 (38%)
