[SQU] Can't start Squid

Hi,
I have finally got hold of a suitable 'test' box for LINUX, Squid etc. However I
can't get Squid to start.

I have installed RH6.1 as a server, used the 2.2.STABLE4-8 rpm that was on
the CD, as this is the version I have working on my main machine. I copied
the Squid.conf file from the existing setup, but when I go to start SQUID I get
the following in my messages log:

The errors directory is where it should be /etc/squid/errors and is a softlink
to the real English errors directory.

Squid is starting as root and the effective_user is 'nobody'
Tried changing the ownership of the 'errors' directory from root to nobody.

Any clues appreciated.
