great...what exactly does the patch do to my current squid proxy?
will it break my pam_auth or can i do that on my own?

You are not in the ntlm branch. (The in the attic shows up for files not
present in the branch.. and they should be present).

What you need to do is download the patch from
http://squid.sourceforge.net/projects.html.

There are more thatn four files needed! There are updates to many files
in the source tree.

When you said proxy configuration with cvs I assumed (gotta stop that)
that you meant your squid.conf. If you meant your source tree, then yes
you do need to scrap it and replace, preferrable with the cvs branch
ntlm, otherwise by patching a daily snapshot. (See the ntlm faq and ntlm
pages and the archives of this list for detailed instructions).
