I found that just after i posted the query
I now have this fun error

$ 0 [sig] (squid) 252197 stackdump: Dumping stack trace to
SQUID.EXE.stack
dump

my other question was where can i get bind from?

Do you have a /etc/passwd and /etc/group file?
Also please simply use the current snapshot from
http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/2.4/
It has the cygwin changes in it. I'll update my pages tonight....
