[SQU] ldap_auth sleeping

from the commandline ldap_auth in or out of a wrapper returns OK and the AD
server confirms the authentication...

when configured in squid.conf in a .wrapper file or not, it never seems to
leave the proxy server...but the helpers are running...

from within the browser, the authentication window appears, the
username:password tag is entered and the
browser sits there waiting for a reply...never authenticating the request.

help, any reason for this...
