[squid-users] running squid permanently

hi all,...

i'd like to ask you how to run squid as a daemon. I'm using
Mandrake 8.0 and
squid-2.4.STABLE1-8mdk (using rpm). I edited squid.conf,
made some files
change their permission and owner. when i tried to start
squid as service
(/etc/init.d/squid start) it works. but suddenly it isn't
running without any
error message came out. Did i miss something? what should i
check?

If i use tar.gz. how can i make squid running automatically
when computer is booted??

nb: does anyone know where we can chat about squid??
