well, i first stopped squid & then deleted all directories/files in 
/var/spool/squid & /var/log/squid/log/ ... after that i did the normal steps 
to start squid 2.4 stable7 with squid -z  and squid -NCd1 .. only after 
checking squid is working ok i swicthed to auto start at bootup, services, 
for squid under RedHat 7.2. ... so i guess there must be no swap state left 
from previos install ! ....  have i taken correct steps ???.. should i try 
starting squid once more repeating the steps ??? .. i hope ihabent missed out 
anything !!!
